The City of Kelowna wants your opinion on the future of Knox Mountain Park.
The views from the two elevated lookouts on Knox Mountain have been valued for generations.
And when open to the driving public, Knox Mountain Drive is easy for anyone to enjoy.
But that might change.
The gate was kept closed to vehicle traffic in 2020 over pandemic concerns.
Now, a year later most of the hikers, bikers and dog walkers don't miss the traffic, but should the park be made permanently off-limits to cars?
The city is considering it.
"You don't have to worry about getting run over or anything like that, so I kind of like having it with no traffic," explained one dog owner.
"This is a wonderful facility. Why do you need cars on it," asked one man out enjoying some exercise.
"I walk up here every day," said a woman, making her way back down the mountain after hiking up. "No, I don't want cars going up and down here."
But even among those enjoying Knox Mountain Drive without vehicle traffic are those who believe the road should re-open to vehicles.
"It's a very, very nice walk, but for older people, it should be open," said one man.
And there are others who believe there can be some middle ground.
"I think you have to have consideration for people with disabilities, so maybe a shuttle service or open from noon to five," said a woman climbing up on a bike. "You know, share it, because there are people that can't hike up this mountain."
People are being urged to take part in a survey that's been posted on the City of Kelowna's website.
