Almost a month after a transport truck crashed into a townhouse on Gordon Drive in Kelowna, the front end of the vehicle remains embedded in the home.
And to make matters worse, thieves have been gaining access to the home, making a mess and stealing things.
"Since the weekend, there have been two or three occurrences where people have been either camping out in the house," said owner Samer Shehadeh.
"From the third floor down, collecting stuff, putting them in bags. Everything is gone in the house, a lot of electronics, a lot of personal belongings."
He said a car was also among the items taken from the property and all this happened with a paid security company on duty outside.
"Kalamalka Security has been here since day one," said Shehadeh.
"My comment to them is obviously they didn't do a good enough job protecting the site. Security guards should be more vigilant."
The company said it's unfair to point the finger at them.
"I don't think it is fair, no," said Manager Lohit Joshi.
"Because we're not allowed inside the place, and if the guard's doing the rounds, if somebody snuck in, you can't tell."
Joshi said the guards were doing periodic checks every 20 minutes.
In those 20 minutes, if somebody got in, it doesn't take long. If that entrance is not secure.
And furthermore, the company said it was their call to the police that led to the arrest of two suspects.
A different security company took over today.
This stage of the ongoing nightmare for the homeowners appears to be nearing an end.
It appears that structural engineers have come up with a plan that could see the truck pulled out within a few days.
"We're hoping that they'll be able to shore it up and basically get the truck out by this Friday."
The Kelowna RCMP say they were able to track the stolen vehicle because it's equipped with a GPS tracking device.
They were also able to arrest two men, a 36-year-old and a 45-year-old.
Both are "very well known to police", according to their news release.
They are facing several charges including Break and Enter, the Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, and Failure to Comply with a Release Order.
