Residents of a Kelowna apartment building got a rude awakening this morning.

The Kelowna Fire Department was called to the 1900 block of Pandosy Street at 4 a.m. after receiving reports that multiple vehicles were on fire.

Upon arrival, crews found that the vehicles were parked under an open carport that was in close proximity to the residential building.

Not only were multiple cars destroyed in the blaze, but the heat and smoke also extended into the apartment building.

One of the nearby balconies caught fire, many exterior windows on the building cracked and there was visibly smoke damage on the building.

The KFD was able to knock down the fire without any further extension and residents were calmly evacuated from the building with no reported injuries.

Residual smoke has been ventilated from the building and residents were briefly let back in to collect some belongings this morning.

It sounds like most will be able to move back into their units by the end of the day.

The fire is suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation by the RCMP and KFD.
