On September 16th, 2017 Co-founder of the WE organization, Craig Kielburger, will be spreading his message of how one person can make a difference, right here in Kelowna.
More than 20 years ago a 12-year-old Craig Kielburger launched the small charity in Thornhill, Ontario. Today, the WE organization is a global movement, and Kielburger will share the story of how that transition came to be.
As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, the City of Kelowna is hosting an hour-long, motivational speech, which will focus on the importance of being a socially responsible citizen and empowering youth to make a difference both locally and around the globe.
“As we celebrate 150 years since Confederation, we look to the past as a learning experience, and to the future to aspire to be better. WE is Canada’s largest youth service organization, and we’re betting on the selfless idealism of a new generation. We want to ensure that every Canadian child serves their local and global communities,” said Kielburger.
“Above all, WE means recognizing that we’re part of a larger community, and that our daily choices have an impact on that community.” added Kielburger.
The free family event will take place at the Kelowna Community Theatre on September 16, 2017 starting at 7 p.m. 850 guests are anticipated to attend, tickets are available through Eventbrite.ca
Kielburger has shared the stage with inspirational icons from around the globe including, His Royal Highness Prince Harry, Malala Yousafzai, and Richard Branson. Having him in Kelowna is a big opportunity for those hoping to make a change not only in our community but around the world.
“As a city that values inclusivity and diversity, we are looking forward to Craig’s presentation in Kelowna,” said Mayor Colin Basran. “Our world is a better place when we work together to improve our communities – and today’s youth are the ones who are going to lead us to a more peaceful and accepting global society.”
