Residents living in the North Westside community were placed under an evacuation order on Aug. 2 due to the White Rock Lake wildfire; the devastating blaze significantly damaged 79 structures and impacted more than 1300 properties.
In Sept. a RDCO board meeting brought forward amendments to the applicable bylaws to forgive a portion of the water fees for the impacted areas.
Those living in the Killiney Beach, Westshore Estates and Upper Fintry, Shalal Road, Valley of the Sun will be seeing approximately a two-thirds reduction (Aug. to Sept.) in the user fee and consumption rates for the July-Sept. period as meters measure consumption over the entire three month period.
The board also moved to forgive any later penalties which may have been incurred during that period.
People living in Killiney Beach have been under a Do Not Consume Notice since Sept. 2, and consideration may be given to extend the rate reduction for those residents.
Each of these water systems have experienced a significant increase in operating expenses due to the White Rock Lake wildfire, as utility operators assisted firefighting efforts and helped to maintain the water systems for emergency use.
Efforts to bring the water systems back into full operation are nearing completion.
