This afternoon just after 3 pm, West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) responded to a small interface fire in the Petterson Road area in West Kelowna.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a rank two blaze burning uphill into Crown land away from any nearby structures.

They worked quickly to manoeuvre a 2,500-gallon pumper/tender into place along an adjacent dirt road and provide large volumes of water to extinguish the fire.

Crews then dug a hand-guard around the 50-foot by 30-foot fire perimeter.

WKFR thanks BC Wildfire for standing by with an initial attack crew out of Penticton to support the firefight. While an additional three engines, a pumper/tender, a safety and a command unit also assisted.

“Conditions are unseasonably dry for this time of the year. WKFR reminds residents to exercise extreme caution in the forests and along with the wildland-urban interface, even at this early stage of the fire season,” explains a press release.

The fire remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported.

Mop-up operations for this wind-driven fire will continue overnight.
