When officers were speaking with witnesses they determined that the man had been asked to leave the property but became aggressive and allegedly spit in the face of security.

When the security guard tried to arrest the man, they fell to the ground, at which time the suspect allegedly pulled a knife and threatened to harm the guard, a release says.

Fortunately, a bystander stepped in and stopped the suspect from hurting the security guard.

The pair held the man down until the RCMP could arrive.

When RCMP officers arrived at the business, they arrested the man for Assault, Uttering Threats and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and held in custody.

The 49-year-old West Kelowna man was released from custody with conditions and is due back in court on Mat. 28 at 9:30 am.

“This individual’s actions are concerning and police recommended he be held in custody to deter similar actions from occurring,” says Cpl. Michael Gauthier i/c Media Relations Unit in the release.

“Fortunately, the security guard and other bystander were not injured during this act of violence.”
