Over 100 athletes from around the world are taking to Hot Sands beach this weekend for an event that has never before been held on Canadian soil.

The Centurion World Wake Surfing Championships have made their way to Canada for the first time and Kelowna is lucky enough to host its athletes.

Participants range from a wide variety of different skill groups, from amateurs all the way to professionals, and making it to this event is no small feat.

Known as the “Olympics of Wake Surfing,” those invited to participate in the event are just coming out of a competition heavy summer and are ready to put their skills to the test to be crowned the world champion.

Taking place all weekend in City Park, the event is open to the public and will be serving up an abundance of big waves and gnarly tricks from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Saturday evening.
