UPDATE: Mounties investigate suspicious item on board YLW aircraft

(UPDATE: Aug. 19 @ 4 pm) - According to the Kelowna RCMP, officials responded to the call of a suspicious occurrence on board a WestJet flight preparing for departure. 

The detachment responded at approximately 2:16 pm and were told that crews discovered a suspicious item on the aircraft, which had no passengers on board.

“Airport officials evacuated the aircraft as a precaution and called in emergency crews,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the Kelowna RCMP.

“Although police do not believe the item poses a threat, RCMP plan to conduct a precautionary search of the aircraft to ensure public safety.”

(Original Story: Aug. 19 @ 3pm) - At approximately 2 pm, the Kelowna Airport (YLW) was notified of a possibly suspicious item onboard a departing WestJet flight. 

As a safety precaution, emergency crews were notified and dispatched to the scene. 

Upon arrival and further investigation, the threat was determined to be non-credible, with the usual airport operations resuming not long after.
