Yard waste collection starts up again on Monday

Spring is right around the corner and one sure sign of that is the return of yard waste collection.

It’ll begin again in Kelowna on Monday, March 2 and the Regional District of Central Okanagan wants residents to do a couple of things in preparation of the first pickups.

“Now is the time to do a post winter check-up of your yard waste cart,” said Rae Stewart, waste reduction facilitator. 

“Make sure to take out any materials that don’t belong and may have landed in there by mistake over the winter months.”

That includes things like plastics, flower pots, garbage, bags of any kind, pet waste, recycling, anything at all that could damage equipment or compromise the composting process.

Doing so is so important because yard waste collected curbside is composted and turned into a valuable soil enhancer, which means it needs to be kept free of foreign materials like plastic or garbage.

Residents will need to leave their yard waste bins out for collection by 7 am on their regular garbage days.
