Pandosy and KLO was a quiet corner in the 1940s when this photo was taken of Lakeview Grocery.
More than 70 years later, the family that's owned and operated Lakeview Market at that corner for 50 years now, can only guess what year that first store appeared.
"I think around 1946 is my best guess," said Barb Hill.
Hill is the Granddaughter of Bill "Bugsy" Jones who bought the store in 1968. It's been in the family ever since.
Jones was a fixture on local radio decades ago with his favourite catch phrase: "If we ain't got it, you don't need it."
The store was re-built in 1980, and officially re-opened by then Mayor Dale Hammill.
"It was a big day for me," recalled Hill. "I got to skip out of school and hand out carnations."
Decades later, Lakeview Market still operates much as it always has despite the pressures of competition in a sector dominated by large corporations.
"I think we definitely have a future," said Hill. "The old fashioned store is coming back and people want real food from real people."
Hill came down to KelownaNow to talk about the long history of the family store.
