The West Kelowna Warriors have announced the commitment of another talented young hockey player, with forward Ben MacDonald committing to the BCHL club for the 2022-23 season.
“We are very excited for Ben to join the Warriors family,” said Warriors GM and head coach Simon Ferguson. “Ben is a player who has a high hockey IQ and can drive the offence.”
The 18-year-old was born in Weston, Massachusetts (Mass) and has spent the majority of his youth playing career for Noble & Greenough school in Mass., which plays in the United States high school preparatory program.
He led his team in scoring with 14 goals and 15 assists in 22 games played.
“I am super excited and honoured to be able to play for the Warriors next season,” said MacDonald. “I was out in West Kelowna a few weeks ago and I immediately loved it. I was able to catch a game and explore the area. I am pumped to have a successful season next year with a great group of guys.”
The left-winger has committed to Harvard University for 2023-24. He is also ranked 60th for North American skaters in the NHL central scouting for the 2022 NHL Draft.
MacDonald's father is Lane MacDonald, who led the Harvard Crimson Tide to the 1989 national championship, and won the Hobey Baker award that year for top player in the country. Lane is also the Crimson Tide's all-time leading goal scorer with 111 goals.
Ben will join other new recruits for next season that include Nolan Joyce, Jaden Moriello and Felix Caron.
