The Big White Ski Club took to the mountains in Alberta this weekend with their eyes on the podium and weren’t disappointed.

The first races of the Western Canada Ski Cross Series were held on the ski cross course at Sunridge in Edmonton, AB, on Saturday and Sunday with course training taking place Friday.

Joining the five skiers and Coach Martin Little from the Big White Ski Club were approximately sixty athletes from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the U.S. that raced in tiers U12 and up.

Finley Cashin cashed in on the first day of races on Saturday, placing first overall in the Men’s U14 category, with Ben Hare joining him on the podium in the third spot.

Kasey Bannon, Shayna Little and Emily Veitch all qualified for the quarterfinals in the Women’s U14 category for the race days on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, racers took to the hill for a second day, with the two male skiers claiming the podium’s top. Hare climbed to first place overall in the Men’s U14 category with Cashin joining him on the podium in second place.
