Inaugural water polo tournament to make a splash downtown

Beginning Saturday morning, water polo competitors will be taking over a part of City Park. 

In its inaugural year, the Kelowna Classic Lake Water Polo Tournament will run from 9 am to 3pm this Saturday and Sunday with an abundance of action to be witnessed. 

Games will be played in teams of five -- four players and a goalie -- with each team playing at least three games. 

Teams will be co-ed and participating in a variety of age groups including 13U, 15U, 18U and adult rec. 

Almost 60 athletes will be travelling to Kelowna from across Western Canada to compete in the event put on by the Kelowna Water Polo Club (KWPC). 

Some of the clubs being represented include KWPC, Vancouver WhiskeyJacks, Vancouver Vipers, UBC, Pacific Storm, Surrey, Regina, Calgary and SFU.

The games are at Cold Sands Beach and will go on even if there is rain, but will be stopped if there is thunder or lightning.
