KSS Owls prevail over GESS Coyotes for Valley curling title

Bronze-medal winners the past two years, the Kelowna Owls will have an opportunity to go for gold at the B.C. School Sports girls curling championship in Maple Ridge Feb. 27-March 1.

The Kelowna Secondary School foursome, skipped by Katelyn McGillivray, went undefeated in five games at the Okanagan Valley championships on the weekend at the Kamloops Curling Club. earning the right to represent the zone at the provincial competition.

An 8-2 victory over the George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country in the title match earned the Owls the title in a Valley-wide competition that also included rinks from South Kam, NorKam, Valleyview, Westsyde and Sa-Hali.

Other members of the KSS rink, coached by Bob Harris, are Vivian Schmeekle, Megan Sergerie and Erika Ellis.

The George Elliot foursome, skipped by Abby Otteson (Lisa Halston, Ella Casparis, Jaiden Lloyd) finished second in pool play while defeating Sa-hali and NorKam in the playoffs for the right to meet KSS in the title match.

Meanwhile, the Elliot boys placed third in their pool at the Valley championship and were then eliminated by the eventual Okanagan champions from Sa-hali.

Members of the GESS team, skipped by Marcus Bulman, are Jaxson Gibbings, Lorne Dutka and Hayden Betterman.
