KWIC swimmers post 174 new best times at Provincials

Over the weekend, 28 swimmers from the Okanagan high performance swim team swam to a tenth place finish out of 39 teams at the Swim BC Age Group Summer Provincial Championships in Chilliwack. Combined, the team swam to 174 best times.

Desmond Ducheck had the highest points for the weekend swimming to three golds in 100m fly, 50m free and 100m free, as well as a bronze in 100m back. Meanwhile, Aiden Kirk swam to two silvers in 200m fly and 400m IM. 

The boys 11-and-under free relay team consisting of Desmond Ducheck, Sawyer Nabozniak, Scott Watson and Gordon Widdis swam to a silver medal finish. 

Swimmers posting 100% best times were Brock Campbell, Desmond Ducheck, Sara Gray, Liam Greenan, Aiden Kirk, Jared Moore, Sawyer Nabozniak, Abigail Nicholson, Noella Quadri, Gavin Rogalsky, Taryn Weatherhead, Gordon Widdis and Dakota Wiman. Those swimmers who were just shy of 100% were Madi Fourie, Kristin Hoivik, Emily Jell, Gavin Johnson, Angel Loseth, Payton Mitchell, Luca Van de Vosse and Max Wright.          

Big time drops were had by Desmond Ducheck, who took nine seconds off his 200m back and 19 seconds off his 400m IM.  Sara Gray dropped nine seconds in her 200m breast, 13 off her 200m back and a whooping 34 seconds off her 200m free.  Emma Hawkins took off 10 seconds off her 200m free and 15 off her 200m breast, while Gavin Johnson dropped 11 seconds off her 400m free. Aiden Kirk shaved 19 seconds off his 400m IM and Angel Loseth took 10 seconds off her 200m IM as well as 11 seconds off 200m back.  Payton Mitchell dropped 25 seconds in her 200m breast and Sawyer Nabozniak took 9 seconds off his 100m fly and 11 seconds off his 200m IM.  Abigail Nicholson took 9 seconds off her 100m free, 14 off her 200m IM, 15 off her 200m breast and 17 off her 200m free. Noella Quadri dropped 11 seconds off her 200m back and 24 seconds off her 200m free.  Gavin Rogalsky took 11 seconds off his 200m breast and 24 off his 200m free, while Taryn Weatherhead shaved 10 seconds off her 100m fly, 15 seconds off her 200m free and 18 off her 400m free. Gordon Widdis took 10 seconds off his 200m IM and 20 off his 200m back while Dakota Wiman dropped 11 seconds off her 200 free.

First time Age Group Provincial swimmers were Liam Chew, Emma Hawkins, Breanna Jolly, Kaelyn McIntyre and Max Wright.  

Other strong swims were had by Megan Frame and Casey McDermid 

Next meet for KWIC will be the Swim BC Provincials being held in Victoria July 4th – 7th where KWIC will be represented by 45 swimmers
