Kelowna water polo tournament a resounding success

It was a competitive environment at Cold Sands Beach this past weekend as the Kelowna Water Polo Swim Club held the second edition of the Kelowna Classic Lake Water Polo Tournament.

More than 140 participants from 13 teams made their way to the Okanagan to compete in the event, with some travelling from as far as Ontario. 

Using their experience from hosting the inaugural event last year, the club improved the event and earned numerous positive comments.

The Kelowna Kraken U18 team

“The Kelowna Kraken won their final two games and placed seventh overall in a tough group of nine adult teams, but our youth players put in strong performances against much stronger more experienced opposition,” wrote the club.

A combined team made up of the Pacific Storm Water Polo Club and Surrey Water Polo Club won the U15 title, while the Burnaby Hurricanes were victorious in the adult rec co-ed division.

Numerous spectators stopped to watch the action and former Olympian Marianne White competed in the competition.
