The Falcons are kicking off their season on the road against the Portland Pickles tonight.

They will play a three game series in Portland over the weekend and return to Kelowna for their highly-anticipated home opener next week.

Their home series starts Tuesday, June 6, against the Nanaimo NightOwls and admission is free because of a sponsorship from Stutters Restoration.

Kelowna has their eyes set on returning to the playoffs after a rough, injury-plagued season last year saw them finish second-last in their division.

The Falcons play in the West Coast League (WCL), a summer collegiate baseball league, with players from across the country and the United States playing.

This is the franchise's 21st summer season in Kelowna and they are slated to play 54 games this season, with hopefully more to come in the playoffs.

Some notable MLB players that are WCL alumni include Cleveland Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber, Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and former Falcon Chris Davis.

Davis made his debut in the majors in 2008 and led the MLB with 53 home runs in 2013 and 47 in 2015, retiring in 2021 due to injuries with 295 big league homers under this belt.

A series to mark on your calendars is July 3,4 and 5, when the six-time consecutive WCL champion Corvallis Knights come to town.

The Knights have been dominant for years and are guaranteed to put on a good show.

There will also be a few rule changes this year in the league; umpires will use personal electronic devices to administer a general 20-second “action clock.”

Along with the 20-second limit, there will be a two-minute time limit between innings.

“The League currently has no plans for mandating visible clocks…It’s important to note that the WCL’s clock protocols are based on the current NCAA rulebook and not the rules currently used in Major League Baseball or affiliated Minor League Baseball,” is stated in a WCL release.

Games will be broadcasted on line at this link and tickets, team information and their schedule can be found on the Falcons website.
