There are 10 Kelowna girls who crossed the border last weekend and came back with gold medals and a trophy win.

The Fundamental Youth Basketball Association (FYBA) U15 girls basketball team competed in the Genesis Classic tournament in Calgary from Friday to Sunday, a tournament which Coach Landry Ndayitwayeko said is the best one in Western Canada that they've participated in.

The team went undefeated throughout the entire tournament, winning some games by nearly 50 points.

"All credit to the girls, they competed extremely hard and were locked in from start to finish," said Ndayitwayeko.

FYBA U15 finished their last game 45-31, stumping an attempt at a late comeback from their opponents, who scored eight points in the last three minutes in comparison to FYBA's two points.

Ndayitwayeko says that although he's happy with the win, the season has only just begun.

"We're very happy where we're at right now with them but at the same time we understand that we're about a month, month and a half, into the season here and there's still a lot of work to do," he said, noting that the girls are a driven group who, despite the amount of practice and training they get, always "want more."

FYBA will host their 2019 FYBA Classic from Friday to Sunday this weekend to see the recent champions back on the court.
