The Okanagan College Coyotes baseball squad squared up against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades in Abbotsford on Saturday, mirroring the 2018 National Championship matchup in which OC came out on top.
Trevor Brigden, senior pitcher for the OC Coyotes, started on the mound for Saturday’s matchup and displayed why he clinched the lowest earned run average (ERA) for the CCBC in 2018.
Brigden forced 13 strikeouts in six innings and surrendered only one unearned run.
Jake Fischer, Coyotes senior catcher, contributed to the Coyotes offence by brining in three-runs with his third homerun of the season en route to a 13-2 win in game one against the Cascades.
In game two, sophomore pitcher Jesse Poniewozik handled the mound for five innings, before freshman Nic Taylor took over to throw three shutout innings.
Despite solid efforts from their pitchers, the Coyotes trailed 3-1 heading into the top of the ninth inning.
Davis Todosichuk brought the Coyotes back on top, hitting a double with a bases-loaded. The Coyotes would chalk up three runs in the ninth inning before freshman pitcher Austin Brown would secure the fifth win of the season.

“We pitched very tough today for the most part and played excellent defence," says Head Coach Geoff White
“Overall we had some really tough at bats as well and put some pressure on UFV and were able to pick up two wins.”
The OC Coyotes will continue their weekend series in a doubleheader against the UFV Cascades at home in Elks Stadium on Sunday, hoping to build on their four-game win streak.
Wyatt Hummel, Coyotes senior pitcher, will start on the mound for game one at 3 p.m., with Chris Wyslobocki taking over for game two at 6 p.m.
