The Okanagan College Coyotes men’s and women’s basketball teams will finally get to play on their home court after nearly two years when they take on the Camosun College Chargers this weekend.
It's been a long homecoming for the 'Yotes, who saw their entire 2020-2021 season cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, playing their last home game way back in February of 2020.
COVID concerns also cancelled a pair of home games originally scheduled for early December, prolonging the wait for the teams.
That wait will finally end this Friday night when the Camosun Chargers men’s and women’s teams come to town for a weekend series.
The OC women’s team enters the weekend riding a three-game win streak with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-2 conference record on the season.
They are led by third-year guard Jordan Kemper who ranks second in the PACWEST conference with 16.8 points-per-game (PPG) while averaging 8.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists on the season. Teammate Soleil Wilding has also been a valuable piece for the club, ranking fifth in league scoring with 14.3 PPG.
The ‘Yotes men come into Friday holding an 0-4 record on the year, having played their last game way back on Nov. 28. They are led on offence by Toronto-native Omon Edobar, who leads the league with 29.5 PPG. Fourth-year forward Seth Blundell is also having a strong season for the college, averaging 7.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 5.0 points this year.
Tip-off at Quigley Elementary School in Kelowna is set for 6 and 8 pm on Friday and 4 and 6 pm on Saturday. The women will play first while the men shoot second.
