The Okanagan Rockets capped off an impressive season with a championship this weekend.

The Rockets won the first-ever Minor Midget League Championship by sweeping the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in a best-of-three series.

Brennan Nelson of Penticton led the way for the Rockets, scoring a goal and three assists in a 5-4 win in Sunday’s game two.

Okanagan won game one on Saturday by one goal as well, knocking off the Thunderbirds 3-2.

Their path to the championship wasn’t an easy on either, as the Rockets narrowly defeated the Vancouver North East Chiefs and Thompson Blazers to make the finals.

The successful playoff run comes after a 23-4-3 regular season, which earned the Rockets the regular season crown as well.

This was the inaugural year for the Minor Midget League, which features 15-year-old players and is affiliated with the Major Midget League.
