Playing host to the Kelowna Secondary School representatives in front of fans in a packed gym on Tuesday in West Kelowna, the Bears jumped out to an 18-12 lead in the first quarter and scored the first seven points in the second to go up by 13 points.

But the Owls, the No. 2-ranked team in the province, found their legs after a second-place finish at the past weekend’s Tsumura Invitational in Langley to go on a 26-2 run and lead 35-27 at the half.

The visitors — shooting 19-for-32 on three-pointers  and 27-for-73 from the field — extended the lead to 60-40 after three quarters and finished with a 73-59 victory and their third win of the early regular season.

Jayden Lalonde scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to top the chart for the Owls while John Haughton added 11 points to go along 10 from Ethan Braam, who also brought down five boards.

Kaeden Skelton, Owen Labidie and Josh Clancy all finished in double figures for the Bears.

The Owls return to action tonight when they play their opening game at the Jasper Place Rebels Invitational in Edmonton against Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School of Regina.
