The Kelowna Rockets were in action this weekend taking on the Portland Winterhawks in Oregon.

Despite falling to the Winterhawks 6-5 in the shootout, Kelowna extended their point streak to eight games. They have been hot in those games, going 6-0-0-2 in the process.

Kelowna had to claw back in this one, falling behind 5-1 at the start of the game.

The game turned around when Colby Knight came in to relieve Tanner Boyko. He stopped all 18 shots he faced en route to the shootout loss.

In the first, Portland scored two quick ones before Nolan Flammand cut the lead in half. That was followed by three more Winterhawk goals.

Once they were down four, Jake Lee scored his fifth of the season for the Rockets. That was their only goal of the second period.

In the final frame, Flamand, Caden Price and Steel Quiring all notched bingos to send the game to overtime. After a scoreless five minutes, the teams would need a shootout.

Kelowna couldn't score once in the breakaway challenge while Portland's Jaydon Dueau iced the game.

The Rockets' power play went one of four on the evening while their penalty kill was two for three in the loss. Kelowna outshot Portland 39 to 36 on the night.

Up next, the Rockets are back at the Veterans Memorial Centre for another game against the Hawks Saturday night. Puck drop is at 6 pm.
