A big piece of the West Kelowna Warriors’ blue line won’t be back in the fall.

Lucas Bahn has committed to the University of Alabama in Huntsville for the 2019-20 season.

The school boasts a Division 1 hockey program and is just a short two hour drive away from his hometown of Hendersonville, Tennessee.

"I'm really excited to commit to University of Alabama in Huntsville,” said Bahn. “It is a great opportunity to join a growing D1 program so close to home. I can't wait to get started this fall."

Bahn scored three goals and added 17 assists for the Warriors during the 2018-19 season, but he received plenty of attention for a different reason.

Fans, scouts and even Hometown Hockey host Ron MacLean were always curious about how a kid from Hendersonville wound up playing hockey in West Kelowna.

"It was an awesome experience getting to play in West Kelowna for a year", explained the 19-year-old.

"I met so many great people and learned so much throughout the year. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made and I'm so thankful for the life experience."

Warriors head coach and GM Brandon West said the team is very happy that Bahn was able to secure a scholarship close to home and the team will miss him next season.
