It was a banner weekend for the West Kelowna Thunder Volleyball Club.

On April 13 and 14, the U15 Thunder girls played in the Okanagan Regional Championship while the U13 girls battled it out in the Okanagan Regional Championship in Kelowna.

Both teams finished first in their pool setting and set themselves up for impressive playoff runs.

The U15 Thunder beat SKY Blue in quarterfinal action, the KVC Krush Black in the semi-finals and came out victorious over T2VB Crew 1 in the finals.

“"This team has displayed a huge leap in mental toughness and defensive tenacity,” said coach Mark Cooper.

“Our girls understand that in order to be successful, their minds have to be just as strong as their physical abilities.”

In Kelowna, the U13 girls earned a bye into the semi-finals after their impressive pool performance.

They then knocked off a tough T2VB Crew 1 team before beating the Lake Country Lakers in the tournament finals.

"These kids are an incredibly fun and talented bunch to work with,” said coaches Trevor Taylor and Shannon Cooper.

“Their love for the game is really the driving motivation behind everything. We really have a special group of girls".

Both teams now move onto the Volleyball BC Provincial Championships in Abbotsford.

The U15 tournament takes place this coming weekend, while the U13 tournament won’t be until May 4 and 5.
