The West Kelowna Warriors have kicked off their 10th annual Pastor Don's Christmas Food Hamper Drive, though this year will be a little different.
Rather than collecting donations that would be used to purchase food hampers during a December home game, the Warriors will be collecting funds at their arena office and at Tim Horton's restaurants around the community.
The sudden change came due to COVID-19, which has put the start of the Warriors' season up in the air.
“It is an honour as the Warriors chaplain to coordinate our 10th annual West Kelowna Warriors Christmas Hamper drive,” said Warriors' chaplain and Pastor, Don Richmond. “During the month of December, we will collect funds that will be used to purchase groceries for what we hope is 120 hampers, which will be delivered to needy families in West Kelowna.”
Richmond's goal is usually just 50 hamper, but many more families are in need this season.
The team will also be selling custom masks, which will see proceeds go towards the drive. Residents can buy masks for $15 each or $40 for three.
