A racing driver from West Kelowna has won yet another race in the U.S. as he battles to win an F4 championship.
Marco Kacic, 16, took second and first place in the 5th and 6th rounds of the Formula Pro Championship in Portland at the weekend.
But the young star was less than pleased with his second-place finish on Saturday.
During an “extremely frustrating” race, Marco said he was repeatedly held up by slower cars while attempting to win the race.
He even said he made unwise manoeuvres in an attempt to get ahead of the traffic.
“I’m mostly upset that I had to make extremely high-risk passes and blocking manoeuvres that I’m not proud of on drivers that I was not even racing against in order to try and break the cycle of being held up in the corners and then just getting passed back on the straightaways," Marco explained.
“The risks I had to take were not smart for someone in my position. If I had caused any damage to my car, it would have definitely ended my season and my championship run.”
After having been brought to tears by the race, Marco added: “I’m not upset about finishing second, I’m upset and frustrated because I feel like we could not race.
“Every lap was compromised by about two seconds, and none of us were able to race with each other.”
Sunday, however, was a different story.
Marco – despite a poor start – managed to stay in front and take the win.
“It felt really good to be able to get some redemption after [Saturday],” Marco said.
“This was still a successful weekend for myself and my team.”
