British Columbia’s METALOCALYPSTICK music festival is set to conquer Lone Butte, BC this approaching Canada Day long weekend.
Dedicated to embracing and celebrating heavy metal, the young festival takes things one step further by adding an element of empowerment.
METALOCALYPSTICK is one of Western Canada’s only music festivals that spotlights metal, punk and hard rock bands that have strong and influential female members.
Each band on the bill features a women's influence in some form or another. From lead vocals, guitar or drums to an all-female roster, the festival aims to celebrate equality in the music industry.
Created in 2016 by Kaija Kinney, she calls it a “celebration of both sexes coming together” and ensures attendees that 2018 is going to be a great year for the up-and-coming event.
“This year’s fest is an exciting one; we have back some festival alumni and some rad new ones from all over North America! We also have a few fun additions between sets,” said Kinney.
Not only does the event celebrate women musicians, but as a non-profit organization METALOCALYPSTICK gives back to women in need and young girls with big dreams.
100% of the proceeds will be donated to BC charities Girls Rock Camp, Vancouver Rape Relief and the Vancouver Women’s Shelter.
21 Bands are set to hit the stage over the two days, with bands hailing from as close as Vancouver to as far as Mexico and everywhere in between.

METALOCALYPSTICK will take place at the Lone Butte Community Centre from June 29 to July 1, 2018. Tickets for the full two days, plus camping, are going for $91.14 and a one-day pass with night camping is $51.14. Both passes are available online.
