KelownaNow wants to get to know the hard working, up and coming artists who fill our city with music and we’re almost positive most of you do too!

Our Saturday Spotlight series will feature a new, local act every other weekend, to better strengthen our scene and get to know the people behind the music.

Get to know: Fated Sons

Comprised of a group of friends who met through a local music school, Fated Sons have been playing seriously as a band for two years right here in the Okanagan.

A rock and roll group at the core, Fated Sons can be heard covering classic songs from legends like The Beatles, CCR and The Doors. However, when it comes to their originals the group has a flair for modern and alternative rock, thanks to the influence of acts like Rival Sons and some glimmer of the Black Keys.

How would you describe your music?

Alternative rock / rock and roll. We have a couple of songs that sneak out of the category but those two always flow back.

Each member brings their own flavour of influence to the mix. Classical, funk, progressive, even a bit of bluegrass. We take all of that and sprinkle it over rock music.

Where do you draw influence from when writing?

Everyday life. We always write with the intention of being most true to our feelings and state of mind

Tell us about your favourite performance to date?

March Madness at Okanagan College. We had an awesome crowd. The sound and lights were absolutely phenomenal!

We got to play more original music than we ever have and we got amazing feedback.

What is your favourite part about being involved in the Okanagan music scene?

There is so much opportunity in the Okanagan. Some people say its too small but I'd argue that because its small, there is way more room for growth.

There are lots of markets for people to fill with creative ideas. Since the scene has great funding and a supportive community, we're excited to grow within it through the next upcoming years.

Despite being a relatively young group to Kelowna’s music scene, Fated Sons have already achieved airwave success, having had their track “Beach Song” played on CBC Radio in Kelowna.

“Knowing anyone could have picked up that station and heard what we created is pretty neat. Shout out to Josh at CBC radio west for making it happen,” said frontman, Austen Sawchuk.

You can catch Fated Sons on Friday, May 24th at the Kelowna Forum or follow along with them via Facebook and Instagram!

If you know of a local band or musician the community needs to hear, nominate them for a Saturday Spotlight by sending an email to savannah@kelownanow.com.
