Following the announcement that Milkcrate Records will close its doors at the end of the month, many of Kelowna’s music lovers are left bewildered and wondering why.

Business owner Richard Rafton, was left just as shocked when he received the news in early August that the property owner wanted them out, saying that he and his staff were left “blindsided.”

Now, having gone through the paperwork of securing and losing another home for his beloved record shop and venue, Richard has accepted Milkcrate’s fate and is beginning the farewell process.

While Milkcrate will no longer operate out of a physical store, Richard assures local vinyl lovers they will carry on through a new online branch they are set to launch soon.

The shop’s last day of operation is set for Sunday, Sept. 29 and they plan to go out with a bang.

For what Richard is calling “The Last Cha Cha” Milkcrate will welcome one and all to sing, dance, and celebrate the life and legacy of the store.

The show will feature live music from two house bands (which are yet to be announced) in addition to opening up the stage for any who wish to perform at the beloved venue one final time.

Until then, Richard hopes his valued customers will continue to shop the shelves and help Milkcrate pay back their debt while enjoying the store’s final fleeting moments.
