A geotechnical assessment will be needed along Highway 6 as a mud slide has not only closed the road but damaged the highway as well.

Transportation BC has tweeted a photo of the damage done to the road as a result of the slide that occurred early Wednesday morning. The highway east of Vernon remains closed in both directions and it could be some time before the road is reopened to traffic.

The location of the slide is just before the Needles Ferry which connects the Okanagan to the East Kootenay. There is no estimated time of opening and the latest updates will appear on the DriveBC website. No detour is available in the area.
