Vernon Art Gallery is creating a gallery in an unusual place: a BigSteelBox.

Cranes lifted the newest satellite gallery into place on Monday in downtown Vernon. The BigSteelBox shipping containers will be used as an Art Gallery in a Box for the upcoming Okanagan Print Triennial.

This exhibition brings the very best in printmaking from around the world to the Okanagan, with juried shows at either the Vernon or Kelowna galleries each year. The winner of each show will then get a solo show with the other gallery. This year features close to 200 submissions from artists from 35 countries.

“Our business was built around the idea that a BigSteelBox is a better solution for moving and storage; usually it’s household belongings or equipment on a construction site, but this is a great example of a BigSteelBox’s versatility,” says president Jason Siebenga. "The Gallery needed a secure temporary solution, and we’re happy to offer our support and help them bring this significant exhibit to the Okanagan.”

Doors to the satellite art gallery open at 10:30 a.m. on March 18th at 31st Street and 31st Avenue.
