A binding referendum is on the table, as citizens of Lake Country will take to the polls on April 25th.

Voting will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and citizens will be asked if they would like to adopt a loan bylaw that will allow the District to purchase a 50 per cent share of 16 kilometres of the Okanagan Rail Corridor.

The loan is expected to amount to just over $2.6 million.

Advanced voting days will be held on April 15th and 21st. To save costs, Council will consider hand counting referendum ballots. The cost of the referendum is expected to cost $10,000. It's recommended that funds be pulled from the 2014 Election Budget, which was set at $16,000.

The original acquisition resulted in a rejection of the loan bylaw after 960 valid electors vetoed its approval.

Mayor James Baker said there has been a lot of misinformation surrounding the rail corridor sale, but he's hoping the referendum will pass.
