Students at Okanagan Landing Elementary School are on lockdown as a body was found early Monday morning on the school grounds.

According to Vernon RCMP Spokesperson Gord Molendyk, the death is not suspicious and appears to be a suicide.

“There was a body found, we determined it was a suicide and have kept the children away and have contacted the coroners department,” adds Molendyk.

The RCMP was called to the school at around 8:30 a.m. and the children have been placed on lockdown to protect them from seeing anything that may be disturbing. Students remain in class and will not be allowed outside until the coroner has cleared the area.

The coroner is on the way to the scene, and the lockdown is expected to be lifted shortly.
