Okanagan leaders are meetings with politicians to talk about Lake Country intersections.
Municipal leaders across British Columbia are currently in Victoria for the Union of BC Municipalities. On the third day, Lake Country council met with Todd Stone, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.
The meeting discussed travelling through Lake Country and the lengthy back-ups at the Glenmore Road intersection at Highway 97.
Council asked on Wednesday to advance a project that started in the mid-2000’s, which is an intersection.
"In the mid-2000’s Lake Country and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure completed planning work for the intersection and confirmed that moving it south of its current location would provide a long-term solution; improving capacity, safety and the flow of traffic," a press release stated.
The second item Lake Country council wants worked on is the crossing at Highway 97 and Oceola Road.
With a speed limit of 70 kilometres an hour, cyclists, walkers and wheelchair users find it unsafe to cross.
Council wants the Ministry to build a pedestrian overpass at the crossing to help the safety of crossing.
