The Independent Investigations Office of BC is in Prince George following an incident at the CN fairgrounds on Saturday.

According to police, at 10 pm, officers were conducting patrols of the grounds when they were flagged down by a security guard. The guard alleged that a teenager had gotten in a fight in the area.

When officers approached the boy, they connected him to an assault investigation and told him he was being detained.

The boy then fled on foot where he was struck by a vehicle travelling south on Ospika Boulevard. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

At this time, the IIO is investigating to see if the boy's injuries were linked to police actions. As the matter is now under investigation, no more info will be released.

Prince George RCMP has launched a concurrent investigation for the initial assault.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
