On Thursday afternoon, students from all over School District 23 headed over to Kelowna Secondary School (KSS) for an event put on by the Global Awareness Club called We for She Kelowna.
Inspired by the annual We for She event located in Vancouver, KSS Students decided to bring the idea to a more local stage. Allowing those who could not travel to the coast to still have an amazing and eye-opening experience.
The goal of the event is to empower and bring awareness to diversity, biases, and gender inequality in the workplace while providing a safe environment to discuss such topics.
The event featured multiple speakers to inspire those attending to follow their dreams and telling the tales of how they achieved theirs.
The Global Awareness Club put together workshop discussions and games to add to the experience as well as offered breakfast and lunch for those who attended the full day event.
“It has been wonderful to have played such an active roll in this important movement. My hope is that every guest can take what they learned at We for She out into the world and use it to empower others. I am so thankful for the amazing amount of support we have received from our school and community.” said Juliet Watts, the president of the Club.
