HM Commercial hosted yet another great event for Autism awareness, supporting local programs brought forward by the Canucks Autism Network (CAN).
Over 50 cyclists gathered at Summerhill Pyramid Winery on Sunday afternoon, eager to kick off a day of exploring East Kelowna’s finest wineries.
Amidst their sipping and sampling at each pit-stop, participants had the chance to join in on different mini-challenges, all the while raising funds for CAN adaptive sports and recreation programs that take place right here in the Okanagan.
Created to accommodate every rider, the event had routes for everyone from beginners and intermediates, to seasoned cyclists, providing a chance for everyone to support this worthwhile cause.
Marshall McAnerney, of HM Commercial and his family, have been behind Kelowna’s Ride For Autism events over the course of the last five years, after seeing the lack of programming and support available for children with autism following his son MJ’s diagnosis.
To date, McAnerney estimates they have been able to help raise over $300,000 for the cause.
Prior to take off, the event had already managed to raise an impressive $19,000 through online donations, with more to come following an evening dinner party which will feature live music and incredible auction prizes.
Following an enthusiastic and brief speech from Mayor Basran, the riders set out for an evening of wine, fun, philanthropy and camaraderie.
