Dozens of locals bundled up and gathered at the Parkinson Recreation Centre on Sunday morning to participate in the city’s third edition of the InspireHealth Rain Walk.

InspireHealth is a supportive cancer centre that offers a variety of free programs to those living with a cancer diagnosis and their families.

From medical doctors to exercise therapists, nutritionists and more, Inspire aims to offer their clients guidance through the various aspects of their diagnosis, aside from the recurring topics of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

“Everybody feels so overwhelmed once they get a cancer diagnosis and they don’t know what to do or where to go. We try to create a warm, healing environment where people can come and have authentic conversations,” said Alicia Keim, exercise therapist for InspireHealth Kelowna.

After raising just under $20,000 at the 2018 event, Keim and the Inspire crew are hoping to hit within the same margins this year.

Funds from this event will go on to bolster their various services, strengthen their Life wellness seminar and start-up outdoor events geared toward young-adults living with cancer.

Following quick speeches from Inspire staff and past patients, attendees carrying brightly branded umbrellas and balloons set off on their 5km walk for solidarity and awareness.
