Kelowna professionals are teaming up to bring forward an event filled with sports, fun and philanthropy.

The first annual Boyd Autobody Average Players Who “Give A Puck” Tournament is set to take place May 4, 2019.

Modeled after the Professionals Tournament, the event will bring forward Kelowna professionals for a day of golfing, hockey, networking and fundraising for the United Way.

“I played in the Professionals Tournament for years and it was great to bring together various groups but over the years we lost some of the camaraderie and the networking so this year we want to focus on that,” said co-organizer Rick Maddison.

According to Maddison, the group decided to add a philanthropic aspect to the event as a way to help bolster the United Way and the various local charities it supports.

“The United Way helps out so many charities and if they are able to get more money, they are able to do more,” said Maddison.

Though the main event is not set to take place until Saturday, May 4, the fun actually ramps up on Thursday, May 2 with the DRAFT event at Freddy’s Brew Pub.

Attendees can enjoy a night of cold brews, complimentary appies and networking prior to hitting the links and ice.

After taking Friday off to prepare for a day of sports, attendees will tee off at Shannon Lake Golf Course at 7 a.m. followed by the good ol’ three-on-three hockey tournament at the Ultimate Hockey Centre in West Kelowna.

Between games, participants can socialize in the parking lot over delicious grub and music, collect awesome swag from sponsors like K96.3 and bid on wicked prizes in the silent auction.

“It doesn’t matter what skill level you are – just come out and enjoy it," said Maddison. "It will be the most fun you can have with your hockey pants on!”

The event is hoping to raise a cool $20,000 for the cause and there is still room for you to help.

Registration is open online now to join in on the fun, or to make a donation if you are unable to attend.
