Kelowna YMCAs are working together to harvest fun and inclusive activities for everyone to enjoy this Family Day.

“I think the Y as an organization really values community, and I think by offering something where we get to really focus on families, brings light to the fact that our community really is our family,” said Dani Tomkins, child and youth program supervisor for the Kelowna Family Y.

Tompkins and the team at the Rutland facility have planned a day filled with family-friendly activities for the community to enjoy, for free.

From face-painting and crafts to a bouncy castle, gymnastics and floor hockey in the gym, along with group fitness classes, the community centre went all out to create a fun environment for attendees.

“To be able to offer something that really encourages everyone to come together is kind of special,” said Tompkins.

“We see a lot of families all the time but we don’t necessarily see them all together, so these kind of events are always special because we get to see the whole family spend time together,”

Mothers Jennifer Janok and Chantel Clark are in full agreement with Tompkins, as the two brought their children to soak in the fun and were impressed by the overwhelming sense of community and variety of activities despite the winter weather.

“I love these special events because you can come out see a bunch of people you know, It is nice to come to these larger places like the Y and know that you’re not alone,” said Janok

“This is great that they actually have a family day activity going on for Family Day, it is what we need in every city, you have to have community centres and things otherwise there is nothing really for the little ones, especially in the winter,” said Clark.

You can join in on the fun at the Rutland location until 5 p.m. today or pop by the H20 Centre to take advantage of their half off admission.

You can also stop by the downtown location to take in one of their family boot camps.

Happy Family Day!
