The Quigley Elementary Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and Rutland Parent Participation Preschool (RPPP) are spending their Saturday afternoon fostering fun and funds for a great cause.
Both Rutland-based schools are working together to host the second annual Easter Extravaganza inside the Quigley gymnasium, boasting fun for all while raising funds to help cover various expenses.
With RPPP being a nonprofit organization, the volunteers and headteacher Bev Majewski host the event to not only bolster their beloved Rutland, but to aid in the purchase of new classroom materials.
“We love to be a part of Rutland and everything that happens here, [it] is our home,” said Majewski.
“We mostly just want to be here for the community and anything we get is just a bonus.”
The RPPP crew brought forward hours of Easter-themed fun with activities like an Easter egg hunt, face painting and a bouncy castle.
In addition to the festive fun, the Quigley PAC hosted various local craft vendors and a concession to help raise the funds they need in order to help cover the costs of field trips and any needs the students of Quigley may have.
“Every year we give at least $16,000 to the school, without us field trip funds would be cut in half and we wouldn’t be able to do things like plant trees outside the school or help them get what they need,” said Quigley PAC president Nicole Garcia.
“PACs are super important – a lot of people don’t really understand how much [they] actually give back."
Much like RPPP, the PAC is excited to offer an event that the community is excited to take part in.
“Community involvement is our main thing – we like having the parents come out and help raise awareness,” said Garcia.
Despite not having a goal for the afternoon, the PAC has been able to raise a solid $600 to help boost their cause.
The Easter-themed fun is sadly all wrapped up, but the community is still invited to take part in the craft fair and concession until 3 p.m. today!
