Two Peachland residents have been awarded King Charles III Coronation Medals.

On Wednesday, Dan Albas, MP for Okanagan—Similkameen—Nicola, announced Barb Dionne and Don Wilson were being honoured for their outstanding contributions to the community.

A news release says Dionne has served Peachland for multiple decades in numerous roles.

She was an entrepreneur, a former municipal councillor and served as Senior Constituency Assistant to former MP Stockwell Day and current MP Dan Albas where she helped hundreds of constituents navigate government services over two decades.

Currently, she serves as the president of the Peachland Historical Society where she is part of the team that manages the Peachland Museum and Visitor Centre.

"The true patriots are often the unsung heroes who work tirelessly to help others succeed in life. Barb Dionne exemplifies this spirit," said Day. "I congratulate her."

The other recipient is Don Wilson who has also served the community in several different roles.

He was a volunteer fire chief, an ambulance attendant and spent more than 25 years on municipal council.

He has also volunteered for three decades at the Peachland Museum, where he is currently a curator, the news release noted.

"Don Wilson's lifetime of service to our community, particularly his leadership in emergency services and dedication to preserving our local heritage, makes him an outstanding example of citizenship," stated Peachland Mayor Patrick Van Minsel, in the release.
