While most are staying inside at this time, Regional District of Central Okanagan employees continue to make their rounds, picking up garbage and recycling throughout the valley.
It’s considered an essential service and the RDCO says it will continue to work to ensure the least amount of disruption to service over the coming weeks.
For now, however, curbside tag-a-bag service has been suspended to cut down on the amount of waste collection personnel have to manually handle.
The only people who will be able to place additional tag-a-bag garbage out for pickup is anyone who is waiting on delivery of a new or replacement cart.
Any new requests for cart upgrades has been suspended though.
The RDCO is also reminding residents that cul de sacs and certain streets are much more crowded with parked cars now that everyone is at home, so try to keep your area as clear as possible to give the trucks adequate space.
Making sure curbside carts are accessible and vehicles or other objects aren’t in the way only speeds up the collection process.
Finally, people have been making more dump runs over the last two or three weeks and the RDCO is asking people to limit the number of trips to the dump as possible so they don’t become overwhelmed.
It also prevents crowding, which has led the RDCO to remind residents to practice proper social distancing if you use any landfill or transfer station facilities in the Central Okanagan.
Finally, the Glenmore Landfill and Westside Residential Waste Disposal and Recycling Centre are no longer accepting cash payments at this time and you’re asked to use a tap card to minimize keypay contact.
