(UPDATE: Sept. 26 @ 10:30 am) - After necessary repairs, the Okanagan Centre Safe Harbour Regional Park's main boat launch reopened last week.

However, the Regional District of Central Okanagan had to close the boat launch once again today.

It'll be closed until Saturday as crews drive new piles and install a 20-foot by eight-food floating dock section.

"This improvement will provide boaters using the facility along Okanagan Centre Road West in Lake Country with better year-round access during seasonal fluctuations in Okanagan Lake water levels," said a release from the RDCO.

The smaller boat launch to the south of the breakwater and viewing platform remains open and may be a suitable alternative for some.

(UPDATE: Sept. 20 @ 7:20 am) - The main boat launch will be back in service at Okanagan Centre Safe Harbour Regional Park starting this afternoon.

"The concrete pad has been stabilized after it was damaged during high Okanagan Lake levels in 2017 and 2018," says a statement from the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

However, the main boat launch may be closed for brief periods next week while new piles are driven and a new floating dock is installed.

"The 20-foot-long by eight-foot-wide floating section will provide better year-round access with seasonal fluctuations in lake water levels," the RDCO's statement continues.

In October, the aluminum gangway to the floating structure, which is currently being modified, will be replaced.

(Original story: Sept. 9 @ 7:30 am) - If you’re planning on taking your boat out of the water over the next two weeks, you may want to avoid a pair of boat launches.

From today until Friday afternoon, the boat launch and dock at Killiney Beach Community Park will be closed for repairs.

The rest of the waterfront park will remain open and boaters can use the small Fintry Community Park access boat launch as an alternative.

Next week, the man boat launch and courtesy dock at Okanagan Centre Safe Harbour Regional Park will be closed from Monday until Friday afternoon.

The smaller launch area in the south of the main facility will remain open for boaters to use.

Both launches will be closed so crews can do work to stabilize the concrete pads that were undermined when Okanagan Lake hit record heights in the spring of 2017.

At Okanagan Centre Safe Harbour Regional Park, the courtesy dock will actually be replaced in the coming weeks, at which point the entire facility will be closed.
