The Okanagan Rail Trail continues to slowly come together.

Although most of the trail is still currently closed, the fundraising campaign hit its $7.8 million target in July.

The trail will open in late September, minus a stretch between Kelowna International Airport and Duck Lake as that land is in the process of being transferred to Okanagan Indian Band IR7.

However, more exciting news regarding the trail came out on Tuesday, as the City of Kelowna announced they’ve begun paving their section of the path.

“We’re rolling out the asphalt along the Kelowna section of the Okanagan Rail Trail,” read a social media post from the City account.

Many are already using the trail, and have been for weeks, but the City advises that people stay off for now due to the operation of heavy equipment for things like paving.

Portions of it will continue to be closed intermittently as the finishing touches, like more paving, continue to be done into the fall.
