A massive flutter of butterflies will take to the sky on Sunday as part of the Central Okanagan Hospice Association's (COHA's) seventh annual Butterfly Effect event.

The release of butterflies is meant to honour and remember loved ones and other special people that have passed on.

"The 7th annual Butterfly Effect is a spectacular butterfly release to honour those we have lost and other special people in our lives. It's a fun few hours for the whole family," reads the COHA website.

Families are encouraged to join the event at Falcon Ridge Farms (579 Rifle Road, Kelowna) and experience the activities, food and entertainment — including the Valley First Community Crew kids Zone, Grimm's Fine Food BBQ, local artisans and live performances. And, of course, the release of butterflies.

"We know it is a special time for our community to come together to remember, to laugh and even shed a tear as we release hundreds of butterflies into nature. The Butterfly Effect is such a great family-friendly event with a symbolic meaning unique to all of us,” said Natasha Girard, Executive Director.

The event runs from 10 am to 1 pm on Sunday. People interested in having a butterfly flutter into nature can purchase a butterfly for $35 or 3 butterflies for $90 via their website here
