Car rolls on Hwy 97 after driver falls asleep

It’s suspected that a driver fell asleep at the wheel on Hwy 97 on Wednesday, leading to a rollover crash.

Emergency crews responded to the single vehicle collision around 6:30 a.m. and discovered the driver was not impaired.

He was heading from Penticton to Kelowna International Airport and momentarily lost control of his Volkswagen along Hwy 97 near Kickininee.

The vehicle swerved across the oncoming lane and onto a meridian, which resulted in it rolling multiple times.

It did, however, land back on its wheels.

The RCMP confirmed that the driver only suffered minor injuries in the crash.
