It was an interesting morning for residents in Lavington as a loud bang at the Pinnacle pellet plant woke up multiple people.
According to numerous social media posts, an "explosion" took place sometime overnight. One resident managed to capture what looked like a fireball on top of the plant.
Pinnacle Chief Operating Officer Scott Bax explained that the situation was just a "process upset," which resulted in a fire.
"At approximately 3 a.m. Monday morning, May 11th, Pinnacle’s Lavington pellet plant experienced a process upset that resulted in a fire in one of the two dryer systems," said Bax.
Bax mentioned that the incident caused no injuries, and the scene is now safe.
"Based on an initial assessment, the damage does not appear to be major. The plant manager, Jamie Colliss, expresses his thanks to the first response personnel who came to the site to support our team."
"WorkSafeBC and relevant authorities have been notified and a preliminary investigation is underway to determine the contributing factors to the incident. Further information will be shared as it becomes available."
Bax went on to say that plant production would be curtailed for the time being while the organization investigates what happened.
"Employees will continue to come to work as usual. We won’t have a definitive cause until we get further into our investigation, I expect this will move along in a timely fashion."
